Carrier furnace and AC age

How old is my Carrier furnace or air conditioner?

The first four digits of a Carrier serial number are the week and year it was made. Enter yours to decode it with Carrier’s published nomenclature.

Decode your serial number

Your serial number stays in your browser. It isn’t sent to us or stored unless you choose to save it to your home.

Photograph the label instead

Photo reading needs a free account and your permission to use an external AI service. It reads the text only; the date is always worked out from the manufacturer rule.

How the date code works

  1. Digits 1–2: week of manufacture, on Carrier’s own fiscal calendar.
  2. Digits 3–4: year. 12 means 2012.
  3. The letter is the factory.
  4. The last five digits are a production sequence.

Carrier’s example 3112U12345 is week 31 of 2012. Carrier’s fiscal weeks may not match calendar weeks exactly, so we show the month as approximate. We only read year codes from 2000 onward. Older Carrier formats aren’t in the manuals we checked. Bryant uses the same nomenclature.

Where to find the serial number

Outdoor units have the rating plate on the side of the cabinet. On furnaces it’s inside the front panel. The serial number is printed directly below the model number.

Age, installation and warranty

This is the date the unit was made, not when it was installed. Carrier warranty depends on the model, registration and installation date, and only Carrier or your dealer can confirm it. Aruvello doesn’t determine coverage.

Questions homeowners ask

Can this be confused with a Lennox serial?
Yes. Both start with four digits and a letter, but Carrier puts the week first. Pick the brand on your label.
Does this cover Payne, Day & Night or other related brands?
Only Carrier and Bryant for now. We haven’t checked the others against Carrier’s documents.
Should I replace an old system?
Age alone can’t tell you. Ask a licensed HVAC technician to inspect it.
